Home Office Say Migrants Contribute £2.5 Billion More Than They Receive

| | | | | |

The Home Office has recently reported that migrants pay £2.5 billion more in taxes than is paid to them in benefits (that's £2500000000). The figure contradicts the widely held belief that migrants cost the British economy money and jobs. Recently some British newspapers have reported that migrants will cause a rise in council tax; something which the new Home Office figures suggest is not the case.

One of the reasons why migrants contribute so much in taxes is that the vast majority of them are of working age. The population in the UK and other parts of Europe is aging and it has long been a concern how the State will be able to afford to pay pensions in the future for a larger part of the population than now. It has long being accepted that immigration is a way of solving that problem and the problem of a shrinking European population.
