What is the English Language Requirement

Providing evidence of the main applicant’s English language knowledge is required for the majority of UK visa categories, with each route specifying the level of proficiency to be demonstrated. This is also the case for those applying for settlement in the UK. There are, however, certain cases where individuals are exempted from this requirement, mostly due to their age, lack of capacity, or because of the absence of provisions for settlement in the UK under a certain route. The requirement to register is usually stated in their letter of approval, visa vignette, and/or biometric residence permit. There is also a further duty to report any changes of personal details and circumstances such as a change of name, address, passport, or marital status.
