As a result of Brexit and the UK’s departure from the European Union, identity cards will no longer be sufficient to enter the UK from October 2021.
Under new measures announced by the UK government on 8 October, EU/EEA and Swiss nationals will not be able to enter the UK using their national identity cards from October 2021. Passports will be required for entry from this date onwards.
These new rules will not apply to EU nationals residing in the UK if they have successfully applied to the EU Settlement Scheme. They will, however, affect visiting tourists and other visitors to the UK. For more information – please see https://gherson.com/blog/eu-settlement-scheme-why-is-it-important
