Investor visa: how quickly can I get ILR?

Posted by: Gherson Immigration

For those who spend sufficient time living in the UK, the Tier 1 (Investor) route can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (“ILR”), also known as permanent residence or settlement.

How soon you may qualify for ILR will depend on the amount of money that you have invested into the UK economy following the grant of your initial Investor visa.

Investor visa: how quickly can I get ILR? For those who have invested a minimum of £2 million in qualifying UK investments, you can apply for ILR after a minimum of 5 continuous years’ residence in the UK. For residence to be considered ‘continuous’, you must not have absences from the UK of more than 180 days in any 12-month period within the overall 5 years.

For those who have invested a minimum of £5 million in qualifying UK investments, you can apply for ILR after a minimum of 3 continuous years’ residence in the UK.

For those who have invested a minimum of £10 million in qualifying UK investments, you can apply for ILR after a minimum of 2 continuous years’ residence in the UK.

In situations where an individual has initially invested a minimum of £2 million in the UK and subsequently ‘tops-up’ their investment to either £5 or £10 million, the relevant 2 or 3year period to ILR will only start to run from the date that the investment increase has been executed.

After obtaining ILR, £5 and £10 million Investors may be eligible to apply for British citizenship after a minimum of 5 years’ residence in the UK and £2 million Investors after a minimum of 6 years.
