In the last few months there has been a surge of applications for replacement Biometric Residence Permits (“BRP”) and Biometric Residence Cards (“BRC”). This, in turn, has affected appointment availability at the Visas and Citizenship Appointment Service (UKVCAS).
On 23 April 2021, UKVCAS introduced the Identification Verification (“IDV”) app for those applying for replacement BRPs and BRCs in order to address the increased demand. The app can be downloaded easily on most mobile devices, where you will be prompted to complete a verification of identity and facial biometric capture. The IDV app provides a simplified alternative for those completing in-country applications. Should UKVI require additional information from applicants, you may be asked to attend a biometric appointment. Please note that using the IDV app does not speed up the processing time of your application.
Those applying for a replacement BRP or BRC from outside the UK will be issued with a 30- day vignette. A vignette is a sticker placed in your passport, which will only permit you to enter the UK within a period of 30 days. You must enter the UK within the dates specified on the vignette. Once you re-enter the UK, you will then be required to apply for a replacement BRP or BRC.
