Arts and Media

The UK has special types of immigration application for people in creative roles. It is possible to make a special application to come to the UK as a writer, composer or artist.

There is a special category in the immigration rules for representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and broadcasting associations.

Applications can be made to extend these types of stay and, eventually, to apply for settlement (ILR, Indefinite Leave to Remain).

In some cases, creative artists or journalists will choose not to use the special categories but instead to apply to come to the UK under a mainstream existing category such as the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme (HSMP) because this offers greater flexibility. Creative artists who wish to work for an employer may also be interested in the work permit scheme.
