Thomas joined Gherson in 2013 to head up the Extradition Team and has over 10 years experience in high profile extradition and criminal law. He has been involved in extradition cases in a number of different jurisdictions and has experience of dealing with complex cases involving simultaneous asylum issues.
Alongside extradition, Thomas often advises individuals who wish to make representations to INTERPOL and has secured the deletion of Red Notices in numerous cases involving allegations ranging from ’bounced cheques’ all the way through to large-scale fraud and attempted murder.
Thomas also has experience in representing individuals in challenging financial sanctions imposed by the EU and has secured the permanent removal of several prominent individuals from international sanctions in recent years.
Finally, Thomas has a wealth of experience in dealing with white collar crime and proceeds of crime investigations brought by the UK authorities including the Crown Prosecution Service, the National Crime Agency and the Serious Fraud Office. He is part of the team which is challenging the first ever Unexplained Wealth Orders to be issued in the UK.
Thomas is a member of Fair Trials International's Legal Experts Advisory Panel and a member of the Human Rights Committee of the European Criminal Bar Association. He is often quoted by the national and international media and has been invited to attend and speak at high level conferences held at the European Parliament in Brussels, the United Nations in Geneva and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
