Immigration Latest From Gherson

Posted by: Gherson Extradition

Gherson is a London law firm specialising in UK immigration, nationality, extradition and Human Rights law.

As the UK immigration world is continuously evolving, with new immigration routes, new guidance and new rules being implemented regularly by the Home Office, it is essential to keep up-to-date with the latest immigration news and announcements. We aim to report on the majority of these changes via our blogs. We also often post overviews of the numerous immigration routes and discuss requirements within the different visa categories.

So what have we been talking about this week?

Detention of asylum seekers pending extradition: how lawful is it?

This blog explored the European Court of Human Rights’ (“ECtHR”) position on the detention of asylum seekers pending extradition, and how this links to Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which establishes the right to liberty and security.

We reviewed the facts of the case, which the ECtHR considered, and how they dealt with the issue of protecting Article 5. Please read the full blog here: https://gherson.com/blog/detention-asylum-seekers-pending-extradition, posted on 20 November 2020.

Important Update for Sponsor Licence Holders – Sponsors encouraged to see if any action needs to be taken on the Sponsor Management System before 7pm on Friday 27 November 2020

There will no access to the Sponsor Management System (SMS) from 7pm tonight (27 November 2020) until 9am on Tuesday 1 December 2020. The SMS is an online system, which Sponsor Licence holders use to access their licences and process requests to the Home Office.

Due to the new points-based immigration system, the Home Office are updating the SMS and this explains the lack of access during the above stated period. To see the effects of the temporary closure, and any action which should be taken, please see here: https://gherson.com/blog/important-update-sponsor-licence-holders, posted on 27 November 2020.
