In an effort to deter people from "high risk" countries over staying their UK short-term visitors visa, Home Secretary Theresa May announced a scheme that would force visitors from such countries to pay a "security bond" of £3,000 before entering the UK. This scheme, which until this week had been scheduled to be piloted in November , would aim to deal with "overstayers" which the UK government claim is one of the biggest challenges facing the immigration system. The government's current policy on immigration is said to be making foreign students "feel less welcome in the UK". The survey commissioned by Regent's University London and carried out by YouthSight suggests that the "torrid" debate over immigration has damaged foreign student's perception of the UK. A hard-hitting film warning economic migrants of the dangers of coming to the UK without appropriate support in place was recently released by The Passage , a charity helping homeless people. The three-minute movie depicts true life stories of migrants, stating key messages those considering moving to the UK must heed to avoid the perils others have encountered. The UK Government's intention to decrease the migration levels in the UK has driven a series of major reforms to the Immigration Rules since 2010.
