In an effort to deter people from "high risk" countries over staying their UK short-term visitors visa, Home Secretary Theresa May announced a scheme that would force visitors from such countries to pay a "security bond" of £3,000 before entering the UK. The government's current policy on immigration is said to be making foreign students "feel less welcome in the UK". The survey commissioned by Regent's University London and carried out by YouthSight suggests that the "torrid" debate over immigration has damaged foreign student's perception of the UK. The UK Government's intention to decrease the migration levels in the UK has driven a series of major reforms to the Immigration Rules since 2010.
