This week, the media claimed that Latvia has introduced restrictions on the issuing of residence permits to Russians applying under the "investment programme". We've tried to work out what has actually happened. The Latvian "investment programme" was launched in July 2010, when amendments were made to the 2002 Immigration Law. It is becoming more and more expensive to live in the UK. Forget inflation and rocketing house prices - for some it costs literally millions to simply gain the right to live in the UK and apparently, judging by the reported rise in investor visas recently, it's worth the money. Although 2012 had strong beginnings for the property market, i.e. January mortgage approval levels were the highest since late 2009, many economists still do not consider the London market's future prospects optimistically.
